Waterloo firefighters have recovered a gun from the Cedar River that authorities believe was stolen. A Cedar Falls man reported the 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was taken from his home Thursday. Justin Thomas of Cedar Falls is accused of stealing the weapon, and taking it to a house in Waterloo.

Ryan Ramer, who lives at the Waterloo home, then allegedly took the gun to downtown Waterloo and dropped it in the Cedar River in an attempt to conceal the weapon. Waterloo firefighters searched the river and eventually located the gun. Thomas is charged with third-degree theft and Ramer is charged with obstructing prosecution in connection with the incident.
