Have you been to MacNider recently? They’ve got all kinds of great new stuff going on and a brand new director too, Edith Blanchard. Over the course of the summer, they’ve offered multiple camps of the kids, from clay and sculpture to jewelry and paint. Mid- August, they’re offering a camp for the younger group; Art Bugs Cowboy Camp for ages 2-4. For a fee of only $24, the class promises a week of “creative cowboy good times!” “Jewelry Jive” is taking place in August also; instructor Joan Semelhack will be taking adults and children ages 8 and up, through two classes. The end result should be stunning ceramic and collage jewelry. The museum is also continuing to host their “Kid’s Club Day” and on Tuesday, August 21st, the theme will be ‘Catch of the Day’ with John Flannagan. If your children aren’t involved in The MacNider Kids’ Club, get them signed up today; it’s free to join and lots of fun!
The MacNider Art Museum also recently announced a new opportunity for those of you who are retired and can’t stand sitting still or those with the luxury of a flexible daytime schedule to experience and enjoy art. Morning Coffee at the MacNider will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the museum, its collection and exhibitions, and American art history. During the first Morning Coffee at the MacNider on Monday, August 6 from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Curator Mara Linskey and Museum Educator Linda Willeke will give a sneak preview of how the exhibition, Migrations: New Directions in Native American Art, is being designed and installed.
